Setting Up the Student CAS Folder
Each student will have a Google Folder for CAS. Each folder will include the following subfolders, reflecting three organizational categories:
- CAS Progress
- CAS Experiences
- CAS Project
Each subfolder will include the following CAS forms. Click the form titles below to download and make a copy of each form.
CAS Progress
- CAS Planning Form (filled in and referenced periodically as a means of keeping track of CAS ideas)
- CAS Progress Report (updated by student each time student engages in a CAS experience. Utilized by CAS advisor to check CAS progress)
- CAS Completion Summary (completed by student at the end of the CAS programme for final evaluation)
- CAS Programme Reflection Form (completed by student at the of the CAS programme for final evaluation)
CAS Experiences
- CAS Experience Completion Form (student will submit a completion form ONLY if they do NOT submit a reflection for the experience)
- CAS Experience Reflection Form (student will submit a reflection form ONLY if they reflect on this particular experience)
CAS Project
- CAS Project Planning Form (student fills out prior to CAS Project Interview with coordinator. Coordinator offers approval or need for revisions and other comments)
- CAS Project Stages Form (student fills out and updates each time they work on the CAS Project or every 3 weeks, whichever comes first, until the project is completed)
- CAS Project Reflection Form (student fills out upon completion of the CAS Project

CAS Experience Approval Requirement
All CAS experiences must be pre-approved by the student's CAS advisor, using the CAS Pre-Approval Form, and submitted by the CAS checkpoint for that quarter.
“Non-approval penalty”
All CAS experiences that are not pre-approved will receive a 20 point penalty upon submission for that quarter.
Completing the CAS Program
A Diploma Programme senior will have completed the CAS programme once they have submitted a CAS Completion Summary that includes:
What is NOT CAS:
- Any experience that receives paid compensation
- Any experience that takes place in a Diploma Programme class
- Any experience, that includes proselytizing (political and/or religious)
- Any service experience for a “for profit” organizations (ex. Volunteering at PetsMart)
- Any activity (service or otherwise) that promotes divisiveness or conflict (i.e organized protests - regardless of our views of the righteousness of the cause)
What IS CAS: (lots of things not listed, but these are clarification)
- Any experience that takes place in a non-DP class (throw a pot in a ceramics class - receiving a grade is fine for non-DP class)
- Activities that are directed at a specific and coincidental community (ex. Aiding in a religious school class)
- Any MHS-organized CAS experience activities
Requirement for Frequency of CAS Experiences and Reflections
Experiences
- Students must complete three experiences each quarter.
- “Ongoing Events,” such as soccer practice or tai kwon do, can only be counted as one experience per quarter.
- Each of the three CAS strands (Creativity, Activity, Service) must be addressed at least once each quarter.
- Each CAS Experience must address one (and only) CAS Learning Outcome.
- All CAS Experiences must be posted by the CAS checkpoints as determined by the CAS advisors.
- All CAS Experiences must be pre-approved by the student's CAS advisor per the CAS calendar.
Reflections
- The CAS programme is seven quarters in duration, starting the 1st quarter of the junior year and extended to the end of the 3rd quarter senior year. Students will be required to submit one reflection per quarter.
- Each reflection will address a single unique CAS Learning Outcome. By the end of the CAS programme, each of the seven CAS Learning Outcomes will have been addressed by a unique reflection..
- Reflections will be assessed using the Reflection Rubric. A minimum passing grade must be received on each rubric for the rubric to count towards the completion of the student’s CAS requirements.
- The CAS Project MUST include a reflection that addresses a minimum of one Learning Outcome.
Assessment of CAS Experiences
- 100 - acceptable CAS experience, CAS Experience Form adequately completed, appropriate supporting evidence
Example Example Example - 90 - acceptable CAS experience, CAS Experience Form adequately completed, no supporting evidence submitted
Example - 75 - acceptable CAS experience, CAS Experience Form submitted but not adequately completed, no supporting evidence
Example - 50 - unacceptable CAS experience. Supporting documentation will not be considered if the CAS experience is not accepted.
