The Diploma Programme is a 2-year college-prep program that focuses on a broad curriculum and an in-depth course of study.

The IB diploma does not replace the North Carolina  high school diploma, but strengthens it by serving as a demonstration of motivation and success in a world-recognized rigorous college-prep program.

To earn the diploma requires the study of six content courses and the completion of the core requirements of the diploma programme.

Content Courses:
Students will take 6 diploma courses – one from each of Groups 1-5 and one additional elective.  Students will take 3 or 4 Higher Level (HL) courses and 2 or 3 Standard Level (SL) courses.

Standard Level Course:  Diploma course that spans one or two years and serves as a college-level survey course

Higher Level Course:  Diploma course that spans two academic years and goes into a greater depth than standard courses

Core Requirements:

The intent of the core is to examine and apply the content and knowledge the students learn in class to their world outside of school.

Theory of Knowledge:  Core course that all examines the nature and value of knowledge and how it shapes our world.  Taken 2 semesters over Jr. and Sr. year

Extended Essay:   Independent college-level research paper on a topic of the student’s choice

Creativity, Action, Service (CAS):  Program of extracurricular engagement that connects the students to their world through activity and service
